Montenegro, extremely rich with rivers, can commend itself with the most beautiful canyons in this part of Europe. As a mountain country which is intersected by many rivers, it is no wonder that on several locations there are canyons whose cliffs raise above 1000m above rivers. The look on the Piva canyon sometimes reminds people to the one on the river Colorado, but when you go down to the very river, and you come into the area called Nevidio, you will come across the gorge which, on some places, is only 2 - 3 meters wide. Certain parts of Nevidio have been studied for the first time some four decades ago, and what scientists and mountaineers have come across were the places of incredible beauty, rich with river rapids, waterfalls and sights which borders with fiction. This area since recently has started to develop in direction of mountain and village tourism by rising of smaller ecological lodgments made of woods.
With full right we could say that Tara canyon, the canyon of longest mountain river in Montenegro, is the most picturesque destination which remains in your memory to the rest of your life. With 78 kilometers of length and the height of the cliffs of 1.300 m this canyon is second biggest in the world! Today rafting on this river is a tourist delicates – there are numerous organized tours which often from the capital take tourist to rafting, after which there is a lunch, usually fish, so the experience is complete. For the adventurers also are interesting the canyons of the rivers which float in Tara – such as Susica, Draga etc. whose average depth is around 700 m.
